The newly finalized COVID-19 stimulus bill includes $15 billion for indie venues and theaters, in addition to a $600 second stimulus check and a renewed federal unemployment bonus. Congressional lawmakers have reached an agreement on the nearly $900 billion COVID-19 stimulus bill, which arrives after nearly six months of fruitless negotiations and roughly nine months after the $2.2 trillion CARES Act was signed into law. The legislation – about $560 billion of which will be covered by unused CARES Act capital – includes “dedicated funding for live venues, independent movie theaters, and cultural institutions.” -Article
Jägermeister is stepping up to help save small music venues across America. The company has partnered with the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) to help preserve music venues. The effort is part of the Save Our Stages initiative, which is in the long-delayed stimulus bill. Jägermeister made a $1 million donation to NIVA for its Emergency Relief Fund. The company will work together with NIVA throughout 2021 to raise awareness about the harsh reality facing venues across the United States. Dr. Ney Rosauro Interview
Ney has several marimba concerti available to learn and play. You can get those from his website on the “works” page.
Ney talks about 1986 when he received his Masters Degree in Percussion at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg in Germany under Prof. Siegfried Fink. He talks about playing the Concertino for Marimba and Orchestra by Paul Creston which led to him writing a concerto that addresses the needs and demands of the modern marimba player.
Ney was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 24, 1952, but after spending over 20 years in the USA he now has dual citizenship. He is thankful to the Univeristy of Miami (where he taught) for helping open some doors for him in his career.
Ney started out playing guitar and bass. He originally went to school for economics and switched after one year. After guitar and bass he studied violin, oboe, mandolin, before ending up with percussion. This was around 20 years old.
Before teaching there, Ney completed his Doctorate Degree at the University of Miami under the supervision of Fred Wickstrom. For his undergrad, he studied Composition and Conducting at the Universidade de Brasilia (Brazil)
Ney balances his music performing, with teaching, and a family of a wife and four kids.
Ney talks about how finishing is important in his drive and motivation in life with his goals and compositions and more.
Ney is a huge Beatles fan but he also loves Bossa nova, especially João Gilberto. Ney still plays guitar and bass, and has also learned Chorinho Brasileirinho and the Cavaquinho.
Some of the names of the musicians Ney has been listening to are: Antônio Carlos Jobim, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Djavan. As for classical, Ney says he likes: Bach, Tchaikovsky, and (Heitor) Villa-Lobos.
The first piece Ney wrote on marimba was “Suite Popular Brasileira”.
Ney talks about the difference in tonal music and more avant garde music.
Ney talks about his path from Brazil, to Europe, back to Brazil and then to the USA.
Two life changing pieces of music for Ney were “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff, “Tommy” by The Who and “Sgt. Pepper's” by the Beatles. Honorable mention to Heitor Villa-Lobos “Bachianas Brasileiras”.
Ney says when he passes away he wants to have Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 in F major movement 3, Allegro playing in the background (by a German orchestra).
Damon asks Ney if he has Synesthesia.
Damon talks about how people can get Ney’s works from his website, and Ney talks about his new “Percussion School” and his music rental program. Shout-out to (friend of the show) Arthur Lipner for his help.
