#69 "Gabo" Lugo- Percussionist, Producer & Audio Engineer!

This week's guest is the talented Gabo Lugo, who is not only a percussionist, but also a producer and audio engineer. 

We start off talking about the iconic recording of this week which is from the two albums put out by the master Israel "Cachao" Lopez called Master Sessions Vol I & Vol II. It was a reissue instigated by the great actor Andy Garcia. The song we chose from these two albums is called "Descarga Cachao".

The percussionist who joined The Roots on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon is Stro Elliot. The professor that Gabo refers to is Tom Rhea. Here's Tom talking about the evolution of the minimoog.

This is a great video of the drummer Tommy Igoe talking about teaching to the future and not just to what you were taught as a student. 

Without hesitation, Jamey Haddad was one of the more influential teachers Gabo had while he as at Berklee. 

Marcos and Gabo give a shoutout to the Pregones Theater in the Bronx for keeping Hispanic art and culture alive and having a place to be showcased. 

Gabo uses LP Classic Model congas, but also has an assortment of electronics at his disposal including MPC type drum machines from Akai, but the Abelton Push is his current favorite. 

Moon gel, Drumtacs and gaff tape are all mentioned with regard to controlling drum overtones. 

In talking about music and the future of the sounds created, Adam Young is mentioned along with his hit song "Fireflies" from his band Owl City
